иногда вообще полезно почитать и перевести, что тебе система отвечает...
man initdb !!!!

после следующих действий, снова не видит ДБ:

bash-2.05b$ createuser dbuser
Shall the new user be allowed to create databases? (y/n) y
Shall the new user be allowed to create more new users? (y/n) n
createuser: could not connect to database template1: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
        Is the server running locally and accepting
        connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?
